The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) continues to solidify its position in the global academic community, with Dr Teboho Pitso, Manager for the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, at the forefront of this progress. Dr Pitso has been invited to deliver a keynote address at the prestigious World Conference on Education and Training (WCET 2025), scheduled to take place from 19 to 21 August 2025 at the Hyatt Regency, Tokyo. The conference, which will be held in a hybrid format, is a prominent gathering of leading thinkers and innovators in education.
Dr Pitso will present on Telagogy, an innovative concept that is rapidly gaining international recognition. “Last year, I presented Telagogy in Turkey and Barcelona. Now, I have the honour of showcasing it in Japan,” he shared enthusiastically. This groundbreaking concept, which he has also registered as an invention through the Science and Technology Park, promises to redefine educational approaches worldwide.
Telagogy, described as a forward-thinking evolution of remote learning, functions as a digital university platform akin to Netflix. It offers adult learners a self-determined, peer-based, and research-driven approach to education. Additionally, it serves as a testing ground for a decolonised curriculum, addressing contemporary challenges in teaching and learning. The concept has sparked significant interest for its potential to transform educational practices. Dr Pitso’s invitation to the WCET underlines VUT’s leadership in driving innovation and contributing to global conversations about the future of education.
Dr Pitso’s participation at WCET 2025 reaffirms VUT’s commitment to fostering innovation and excellence. As he prepares to represent both the university and South Africa on this international stage, the academic community eagerly anticipates the global impact of his work.
The Vaal University of Technology takes great pride in Dr Pitso’s achievements and looks forward to his continued success in championing innovative solutions for education.
